How We Source Cost Data on flightschoolcost.com
Independence statement
flightschoolcost.com is not a flight school, not a financial advisor, not affiliated with any flight training provider, the FAA, the VA, the BLS, or AOPA. The site exists to publish the cost data that flight school marketing pages, lender advertorials, and ranked-and-affiliated "best 10 schools" listicles are structurally unable to publish honestly.
Accepted primary sources
- AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) cost guidance, finance pages, training resources
- FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) fee schedules, Part 61 vs Part 141 regulations, AME guide, knowledge test administration documents, DPE handbook
- BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Occupational Outlook Handbook for airline and commercial pilots, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics tables
- VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) GI Bill flight training documentation, Yellow Ribbon school list, Chapter 31 vocational rehabilitation guidance
- Bureau of Transportation Statistics general aviation activity reports where relevant
- Named major flight school published pricing pages (ATP Flight School, Epic Flight Academy, US Aviation Academy, Sling Pilot Academy, Sporty's Academy, Aerocadet, Thrust Flight, Parrish Aviation), with URL and verification date
- Sallie Mae, Stratus Financial, Meritize, CareCredit, AOPA Finance published rate sheets and product pages
- Peer-reviewed and credentialed industry publications: FLYING Magazine, AOPA Pilot, AVweb, Plane & Pilot
Sources we do NOT cite as primary
- Reddit r/flying threads, used as anecdotal corroboration only, never as primary source for a specific dollar figure
- Pilots of America forum threads, same standing as Reddit
- Anonymous student blogs
- Affiliate-driven aggregator sites that don't cite their underlying sources
Verification process
Every dollar figure on this site must trace to a primary or aggregator source named in the page's primary-sources block. Verification dates are stamped on every page header. We re-verify cost figures quarterly, with a full review at each tax-year and FY-adjusted change (GI Bill cap, FAA fee schedule changes, lender APR changes).
Conflict-of-interest disclosure
Affiliate relationships with named lenders (Sallie Mae, Stratus Financial, Meritize, AOPA Finance), online ground school providers (Sporty's, Pilot Institute, King Schools, Gleim), and pilot-supply retailers (Sporty's, MyPilotStore, Pilot Mall, Amazon Associates) may be present at the page level where applicable. Affiliate relationships do NOT affect editorial ranking, ordering, or content. Schools are listed alphabetically or geographically, never ranked.
What we explicitly do not do
- Rank "best" flight schools
- Run flight-school enrolment lead-gen funnels
- Quote specific flight-school pricing without URL and verification date
- Oversell GI Bill coverage
- Use predatory urgency framing ("the pilot shortage means now is the time")
- Use stock photos of pilots in cockpits to drive aspirational click-through
- Run financing CTAs above the fold or in calculator output
Errata and corrections
If you spot a data error, an outdated cost figure, a stale lender APR, or a school listing that has changed pricing since our verification date, please flag it. The verification date in the page header is updated whenever a quarterly review or a specific correction is processed. Corrections are noted in the source block when material to the figure presented.
About
flightschoolcost.com is part of the Digital Signet network of independent cost references. The network publishes cost-transparency sites for high-aspiration purchases where the dominant SERP is structurally conflicted (PPL and aviation training, fertility and IVF, dental and medical procedures, education costs, automotive repair).
